Do you think everything you need to know about copywriting has been written down? Not sure. There are many new ideas you still have to learn everyday.
Writing what your reader needs is done by getting into his mind to find out who he is , his fears, desires, hopes, goals, and interests.
You can gain huge insights into your targeted reader’s attention by using your imagination. This is done by asking yourself, what you think people are like. Think as many words as you can that describe people; write them down. It doesn’t have to be the one you are selling to, just people in general. For example your reader is: busy, tired, afraid, greedy, hungry, ambitious, sick, poor in finance, happy, sad, disappointed, just to name a few. You can gather these personal attributes into two broad groups: those that reflect the things your reader is running away from , and those that reflect the things he is running towards. Look at how the above are written below.
• ATTRIBUTES. He is:
Tired, Busy, Ambitious, Greedy, Fear, Hungry.
•AWAY FROM. He runs away from: Stress or Overwork, To-Do-List, Low Status, Hardship, Insecurity, ill-health.
•TOWARDS. He runs towards: Sleep, More Time, Money or Power, Easy Life Security, Good Health.
The more attributes you can identify for your reader, with their associated feelings of “away from” and “towards”, the closer you are to understand him or her.
Building a psychological picture of your reader really helps to get a feel of him and what you really need to say to cause him do, think or feel what you want him to. Of course, you will have all sorts of other information about him; this will help you focus. Remember, knowing the person he is, is more important than knowing his purchasing history. Knowing who he is will enable you write what he needs.
To obtain an imaginary reader, you will need a plan of action. Here’s a five-step plan for getting inside your reader’s head- without leaving your desk or present position.
i) Sit back and relax.
ii) Close your eyes.
iii) Call him or her to mind( your reader or client)
iv) Imagine him talking to you; exposing his fears, desires, hopes, goals, and needs. What do they look like? How do they sound?
v) Ask him, about himself.
Provide up-to-date solutions to his worries. This is where he will be hooked to read your copy. This is how the world's greatest and worst novelists do it. You can do same. Your chances to succeed using this approach as a copywriter are great.
A quick route into your reader’s head is to focus on fear and greed. These two emotions are hugely powerful motivators in copywriting. What they are frightened of, and what they are greedy for. Do these and you will get your reader always.
You are expected to use the above approaches to write copy or content that attract traffic to your blog ,website or that of someone . Let me know if you have blog posts or any other copy to write. I am ready to help.
